Dear Reader,
You’ve read a few Tenerife News articles. It’s brilliant that you like us so much! As a thank you, we regularly allocate you a free quota. And that quota has now been used up for this cycle. That’s why, instead of the full article, you’re now seeing the offers outlined above in a similar format. If you join the community, you’ll enjoy numerous benefits. Among other things, this restriction will be lifted as soon as you log in with your credentials. Every now and then we’re asked why this is the case. I’d be happy to explain:
Imagine you have a full shopping trolley and, as a matter of course, walk past the till, leave the shop and head home. Or imagine you go to the garage after a repair, unlock your car and simply drive off the forecourt. Now imagine you’re the owner of the supermarket or the garage. You have an offer that people accept. And when you put a price on your goods or services, complaints follow. In the real world, this is unthinkable; on the internet, it’s an everyday occurrence.
Advertising on the internet is a bone of contention. There are constant complaints about it. And yet people put up with it so they can pay for things indirectly. That’s fine – as long as everyone plays along. Unfortunately, more and more people are using ad blockers. And that only works to a limited extent. Because if this group exceeds a certain proportion of the total readership, the situation becomes critical for the publisher.
On top of that, the advertising industry no longer generates the levels of revenue that were previously the norm. So if the number of people seeing adverts falls, and the adverts seen by the rest are no longer equally valuable, there are exactly three options: Quality is reduced, the product is discontinued for cost reasons, or people do as they do in the supermarket: those who buy something pay for what they consume.
The analogy in our case: if you only take samples, you can continue to pay with peanuts by putting up with adverts. If, on the other hand, you fill your shopping trolley to the brim, you’ll have to pay for the contents at the till. And you can do that very easily right here.
The price is made up of several factors. Firstly, the payment service provider receives a share. This consists of a fixed amount and a percentage-based component. Then there is the cost of the payment gateway software, which also incurs costs. Finally, tax must be paid. And then there is the bookkeeping, which incurs costs with every payment. This also explains why the annual membership is cheaper than twelve individual monthly memberships. Furthermore, the predictability that an annual membership offers us is rewarded with an discount.
Whatever remains after these deductions is invested in the product. It pays the people who create the content. It pays for the photos. It pays for the server – that is, the computer on which the website is permanently available for you to access. It pays the service provider who charges per email sent for the newsletter. It pays the rent for the office and the people who work there. It pays for the internet connection, the telephone and the lawyers who need to be consulted from time to time online. It pays for the computers needed to create everything. And it also pays the developers who help me in areas where, as a trained journalist, I’m unable to make headway with the programming myself.
There are numerous other items. However, I think you’ve got a sense of our cost structure. Everyone is free to opt for discount journalism. We, on the other hand, focus on quality. And that comes at a price. We have calculated ours. And we’d be delighted if you not only accepted it, but also understood and embraced it. That’s why I’m inviting you today to pay for your shopping trolley with us.
After all, absolutely everything in life has a value. Whilst one person might say, ‚That’s too expensive for me‘, another might say: ‚I’d even pay more of my own accord because it’s worth that price to me.‘ We have decided to focus on the people who recognise our value. And we will tailor our offering to these people and their needs, gradually expanding it in this direction. They are walking this path alongside us. We, on the other hand, regard people who complain about this as less constructive. We do not exclude them. On the contrary, we even give them a free allowance. And this explanation. The rest of our attention, however, is devoted to our community.
So what I’m specifically asking you to do is to become part of this Tenerife News community. In return, you’ll receive various benefits from us. You can now find our offers and all the benefits at a glance. My tip: Go for the annual deal. It offers the best value for money. You can find it here.
Best regards and many thanks from
