Situated between Tenerife to the west and Fuerteventura to the east, Gran Canaria lies at the heart of the Canary Islands. The weather on Gran Canaria is strongly influenced by the trade winds and the Canary Current. On the northern slopes in particular, the trade winds bring precipitation – usually in the form of thick banks of fog.

Much like on the neighbouring islands, the weather on Gran Canaria varies greatly between the north and the south. Whilst the northern part of the island is quite damp and therefore fertile, the sun beats down fiercely in the south, at times transforming the landscape into a lunar scene.

The weather in the Canary Islands is very changeable. Whilst a forecast for this period is technically possible, it would be far too vague. We have therefore decided not to offer such a service. The likelihood of a forecast made so far in advance actually proving accurate has proved to be too low. The weather in this archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean is simply too volatile for that.

Annual average weather in Gran Canaria

People often mistakenly assume that the mild winter temperatures in Gran Canaria mean the summer will be uncomfortably hot. However, thanks to the trade winds, the weather remains pleasant even during the hottest months. The sea temperature is also pleasant all year round. It ranges from 18 degrees in winter to 22 degrees in the warmer seasons. This, combined with around 2,700 hours of sunshine per year, makes Gran Canaria a wonderful holiday destination. After all, there are on average only about 26 days of rain per year.

Gran Canaria weather: the warmest months

The months between June and September are considered the warmest in Gran Canaria. During this period, temperatures regularly reach their peak, with the thermometer frequently exceeding the 30-degree mark during the day. These warm months not only attract sun-seekers from all over the world, but also offer residents and holidaymakers on Gran Canaria the ideal setting for endless days on the beach, adventurous excursions into the picturesque countryside and cosy evenings under a sparkling starry sky.
