If you have any questions regarding this privacy policy, please contact our Data Protection Officer, Johannes Bornewasser, directly at: datenschutz@teneriffa-news.com or via the contact details provided in the Legal Notice. This privacy policy applies to the main portal at www.teneriffa-news.com as well as to any subdomains on which further content may be published.
A. General Provisions
§ 1 General Information
- Personal data comprises specific details relating to your personal or factual circumstances; in other words, data that identifies you or that can be used to establish your identity. This includes, for example, your real name, your address, telephone number or date of birth. Personal data also includes data that can be linked to a specific individual, i.e. data without a direct reference but from which a person can be identified, such as an IP address.
- Data that can be linked to a person includes data generated when you access https://www.teneriffa-news.com (or other subdomains) via your client (browser) and which is stored in so-called log files on the servers of Teneriffa News and those of technical service providers.
- Teneriffa News collects data on every access to the server on which the service is hosted (so-called server log files) on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. an interest in the analysis, optimisation, economic operation and security of our services) within the meaning of Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR.
- This includes the name of the webpage accessed, the file, your IP address, the date and time, the browser type and the requesting internet service provider.
- Log file information is stored for a maximum of seven days for security reasons (e.g. to investigate cases of misuse or fraud) and is then deleted. Data which must be retained for further evidence purposes is exempt from deletion until the relevant incident has been fully clarified.
- When you visit the Teneriffa News website, personal data is also processed automatically in anonymised form. This includes usage data such as the start and end times of your visit, the pages you have accessed, and the length of time spent on the portal. This data is not used for any personal identification purposes.
- Teneriffa News collects, processes or uses personal data only in compliance with the relevant data protection regulations. This means that users‘ data is processed only where there is a legal basis for doing so. This applies, in particular, where data processing is necessary or legally required for the provision of our contractual services and online services, where the user’s consent has been obtained, or on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. our interest in the analysis, optimisation, economic operation and security of our services within the meaning of Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR, in particular with regard to audience measurement, the creation of profiles for advertising and marketing purposes, as well as the collection of access data and the use of third-party services.
- We would like to point out that the legal basis for consent is Article 6(1)(a) and Article 7 of the GDPR; the legal basis for processing to fulfil our services and carry out contractual measures is Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR; the legal basis for processing to fulfil our legal obligations is Article 6(1)(c) of the GDPR, and the legal basis for processing to safeguard our legitimate interests is Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR.
§ 2 Hosting & Website Delivery
Our web hosting provider, SiteGround Spain S.L., Calle de Prim 19, 28004 Madrid, Spain (hereinafter: „SiteGround“), collects data regarding access to its servers (so-called server log files). These may contain the address of the web pages accessed, as well as files, the date and time of access, the volume of data transferred, confirmation of successful access, browser type and version, the user’s operating system, the referrer URL (the page visited previously), IP addresses and the requesting provider.
The log files may be used for security purposes – for example, to prevent server overload. This applies in particular in the event of malicious attacks, such as DDoS attacks. They also help to ensure server capacity utilisation and stability. Furthermore, log files assist in identifying errors and disruptions to (website) operations.
Further information on Siteground’s handling of user data can be found at www.siteground.com/viewtos/privacy_policy.
In addition, we use a ‚Content Delivery Network‘ (CDN) to deliver our website. This is a network of high-performance servers that cache content at various locations around the world. A CDN ensures that content is delivered to website users quickly. It also reduces the load on the web hosting provider, as it minimises the data traffic to the original server. The legal basis for the use of a CDN is set out in Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR (legitimate interest in data processing).
Teneriffa News uses the CDN service provided by Cloudflare Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, California 94107, USA (hereinafter: „Cloudflare“). Full details regarding Cloudflare’s handling of user data can be found at: www.cloudflare.com/de-de/privacypolicy/.
§ 3 Security Measures
We implement state-of-the-art organisational and technical security measures to ensure compliance with data protection legislation and to protect the data we process against accidental or deliberate manipulation, loss, destruction or access by unauthorised persons.
§ 4 Disclosure of Data to Third Parties and Third-Party Providers
- Data is only disclosed to third parties within the framework of the statutory requirements. We only disclose users‘ data to third parties if this is necessary, for example, on the basis of Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR for contractual purposes, or on the basis of legitimate interests pursuant to Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR in the economic and effective operation of our business. This applies to internal and external service providers for the purposes of contract fulfilment and data processing on our behalf.
- Where we engage subcontractors to provide our services, we take appropriate legal precautions as well as corresponding technical and organisational measures to ensure the protection of personal data in accordance with the relevant legal provisions.
- Where, within the scope of this privacy policy, content, tools or other resources from other providers (hereinafter ‚third-party providers‘) are used and their registered office is located in a third country, it must be assumed that a data transfer takes place to the countries in which the third-party providers are based. Third countries are defined as countries in which the GDPR is not directly applicable law, i.e. generally countries outside the EU or the European Economic Area. Data is transferred to third countries either where an adequate level of data protection exists, where the user has given their consent, or where there is a legal authorisation to do so.
§ 5 Contact
When you contact us (via the contact form or by email), your details are processed for the purpose of handling your enquiry and its follow-up in accordance with Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR.
§ 6 Use of cookies
1. Cookies are small amounts of data that are transmitted to your computer from the internet together with the data you have actually requested. This data is stored there and retained for later retrieval. Teneriffa News uses the following types of cookies:
a) Session cookies: These are cookies that are only generated for the current session. They store information about user permissions, the validity of the session, search terms when the search function is used, and, in online shops, the items selected for the shopping basket. These cookies are deleted once the session ends, i.e. upon leaving Teneriffa News or closing the browser window.
b) Login cookies: In addition, a cookie is used for user authentication. Various types of cookies may be used for this purpose: by default, cookies are used that are created solely for the current session. They store information about user rights and the validity of the session. Upon the participant’s express request, they may also request a persistent cookie, so that on their next visit to Teneriffa News, certain details are already pre-filled in the login form and logging in is not necessary. Teneriffa News expressly draws attention to the risks associated with this procedure, namely that there is a risk of misuse, e.g. of the username and password, by third parties.
c) Google Analytics cookies (data collection for optimisation purposes): On the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. interests in the analysis, optimisation and commercial operation of our online offering within the meaning of Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR), we use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. („Google“). Google Analytics uses cookies, i.e. text files that are stored on your computer and enable an analysis of your use of the website. The information generated by the cookie regarding your use of this website is usually transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. However, as we have enabled IP anonymisation on this website, your IP address will first be truncated by Google within Member States of the European Union or in other signatory states to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transmitted to a Google server in the USA and truncated there. Google may use this information on our behalf to evaluate your use of the website for us, to compile reports on website activity for the website operators, and to provide other services relating to website and internet usage. This website uses Google Analytics reports on demographic characteristics, which utilise data from Google’s interest-based advertising as well as visitor data from third-party providers (e.g. age, gender and interests). This data cannot be traced back to a specific individual and can be disabled at any time via the ad settings. You can prevent the installation of cookies by adjusting the settings in your browser software; however, we would like to point out that, in this case, you may not be able to make full use of all the functions of this website. You can also prevent Google from collecting the data generated by the cookie and relating to your use of the website (including your IP address), as well as prevent Google from processing this data, by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available via the following link: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de. Further information on Google’s use of data, as well as options for settings and opting out, can be found on Google’s websites: https://www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/, https://www.google.com/policies/technologies/ads/, https://adssettings.google.com/anonymous
d) Microsoft Clarity: Teneriffa News uses Microsoft Clarity. This is a web analytics service provided by Microsoft Corporation, One Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052, USA, hereinafter referred to as „Microsoft“. Microsoft guarantees compliance with EU data protection regulations.
The Microsoft Clarity service is used to analyse user behaviour on our website. The legal basis for this is Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the analysis, optimisation and commercial operation of our website. Usage and personal information, such as the IP address, location, time or frequency of visits to our website, is transmitted to a Microsoft server in the USA and stored there. We use Microsoft Clarity with the so-called anonymisation function. Through this function, Microsoft truncates the IP address whilst the data is still within the EU or the EEA.
The data collected in this way is then used by Microsoft to provide us with an analysis of visits to our website and the usage activities taking place there. This data may also be used to provide further services relating to the use of our website and the use of the internet.
Further information on the service provider can be found in the Microsoft Privacy Statements. Further information on Clarity is available in the relevant Privacy Policy.
e) VG-Wort cookies: Teneriffa News uses „session cookies“ from VG-Wort, Munich, to measure access to texts in order to determine the likelihood of copying. Session cookies are small pieces of information that a provider stores in the visitor’s computer’s working memory. A session cookie contains a randomly generated unique identification number, known as a session ID. A cookie also contains information about its origin and how long it is stored. Session cookies cannot store any other data. These measurements are carried out by Kantar Deutschland GmbH in accordance with the Scalable Central Measurement Method (SZM). They help to determine the likelihood of individual texts being copied for the purpose of remunerating authors and publishers in accordance with statutory entitlements. We do not collect any personal data via cookies. Many of our pages contain JavaScript calls through which we report page views to the collecting society VG Wort. In this way, we enable our authors to share in the distributions made by VG Wort, which ensure the statutory remuneration for the use of copyright-protected works in accordance with Section 53 of the German Copyright Act (UrhG). It is also possible to use our services without cookies. Most browsers are set to accept cookies automatically. However, you can disable the storage of cookies or set your browser to notify you as soon as cookies are sent.
Teneriffa News also uses the „Scalable Central Measurement Method“ (SZM) provided by Kantar Deutschland GmbH to determine statistical parameters for assessing the likelihood of texts being copied. This process involves the collection of anonymous measurement data. To recognise computer systems, the traffic measurement system uses either a session cookie or a signature generated from various pieces of information automatically transmitted by your browser. IP addresses are processed only in anonymised form. The method was developed in accordance with data protection regulations. The sole purpose of the method is to determine the likelihood of individual texts being copied. Individual users are not identified at any time. Your identity remains protected at all times. You will not receive any advertising via the system.
2. In general, you also have the option to delete cookies using the relevant browser function and to configure how your browser should handle cookies. However, please note that generally rejecting cookies may impair your use of the services. You can also manage your settings under Section 5(f).
3. You can opt out of the use of cookies used for audience measurement and advertising purposes via the Network Advertising Initiative’s opt-out page (https://optout.networkadvertising.org/) and, in addition, the US website (http://www.aboutads.info/choices) or the European website (http://www.youronlinechoices.com/uk/your-ad-choices).
§ 7 Search
On our website, we use Algolia Instantsearch, a search engine service provided by Algolia Inc. („Algolia“), to search for and index content. When you use Algolia Instantsearch, your IP address and your search query are transmitted to an Algolia server and stored there for 90 days for statistical purposes. Please note Algolia’s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Algolia does not transfer the collected data to third parties, but processes it exclusively internally for statistical analysis and the monitoring of its services. The legal basis for the processing of the data is Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR. Algolia Instantsearch is used to make it easier to find the information contained on our website and to ensure user-friendliness. The data is stored on Algolia’s server for a period of 90 days.
§ 8 Social Media
- Teneriffa News uses the Facebook ‚Share‘ button and the Twitter button on the basis of its legitimate interests (i.e. an interest in the analysis, optimisation and commercial operation of our online offering within the meaning of Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR). This allows you to conveniently share or tweet articles, and your friends or contacts will be notified accordingly. If you click on one of the buttons, a new window will open prompting you to log in to the relevant social network. In this case, a cookie from the social network will also be placed on your computer.
- If you do not click on the button or are not logged in to the social network, no cookie from the social network will be placed on your computer. If you are a user of the social network, are logged in and click on the button, this information will be transmitted to your relevant user profile. Other users will then be able to see that you are sharing or tweeting this article. Exactly which users receive this information depends on the privacy settings you have configured on your user profile. When you visit a page featuring a button, your IP address is transmitted. For data protection reasons, however, this is anonymised in such a way that no conclusions can be drawn about the computer or its user.
- This website also features a WhatsApp button (WhatsApp Share button). You can use this button to share content from Teneriffa News via the WhatsApp application on your mobile phone or computer. The button is a hyperlink. When the button appears on the website, no personal data is yet transmitted to the operator of WhatsApp or any other third parties. As soon as you use the WhatsApp button, the operator of WhatsApp will be informed of the content being shared and that the button has been used on this website. Further information on the handling of personal data by the operator of WhatsApp can be found in the operator’s privacy policy: www.whatsapp.com/legal/#Privacy
§ 9 Social Embeds
To supplement our reporting in specific instances, we sometimes embed content from external providers. This may include videos, graphics or photos. We prevent the transfer of data to social networks until you actively permit it by clicking. This is done via the ‚cookie banner‘ which is displayed when you first visit our site. You can also edit these settings later by clicking on ‚Settings‘ at the bottom of the page. This functionality is also controlled by a cookie. The embeds controlled in this way include, for example, content from Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Google, OpenStreetMaps, Vimeo or YouTube.
§ 10 Facebook fan pages
We operate Facebook fan pages on the Facebook social network in order to communicate with customers, prospective customers and users active on the platform and to provide them with information about our products and services.
Users‘ data may generally be processed for market research and advertising purposes. For example, usage profiles may be created based on users‘ behaviour and the interests derived therefrom. These usage profiles may in turn be used, for example, to display advertisements both on and off the platforms that are presumed to correspond to users‘ interests. For these purposes, cookies are usually stored on users‘ devices, in which their usage behaviour and interests are recorded. Furthermore, data may also be stored in the user profiles regardless of the devices used by the users (particularly if the users are members of the respective platforms and are logged in to them).
The processing of users‘ personal data is carried out on the basis of our legitimate interests in providing users with effective information and in communicating and interacting with them, in accordance with Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR. If users are asked by the respective platform providers to give their consent to the data processing described above – for example, by ticking a box – the legal basis for the processing is Article 6(1)(a) and Article 7 of the GDPR.
For a detailed explanation of the respective processing activities and the options for objecting (opt-out), please refer to the information provided by the providers via the links below.
In the case of requests for information and the exercise of user rights, we would also like to point out that these can be exercised most effectively by contacting the service providers directly. Only the service providers have access to users‘ data and can take the necessary measures and provide information directly. Should you nevertheless require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

-
To protect ourselves from automated spam emails via our contact forms, we use the reCAPTCHA service provided by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 949043, USA (hereinafter „Google“) on this website in certain cases. This serves, in particular, to distinguish whether the input was made by a natural person or, abusively, through machine-based and automated processing. In the latter case, the message would be automatically prevented from being sent. A separate script is embedded on our website for this service. Simply using the website, without sending a message, may result in data being transmitted to Google when the script is loaded. As part of the marketing agreement, so-called AdTags are embedded on our site, through which Symplr delivers advertising. Location-based data may be used to display location-specific advertising and for statistical purposes. This data is not processed in a way that identifies individuals. Where location tracking is carried out via the IP address, it is ensured that this is first anonymised by truncating the last eight digits. Symplr also uses cookies to analyse, in anonymised or pseudonymised form, the use of the websites – in particular online advertising – and to present specific offers of interest to the respective user on the websites based on their preferences. Symplr permits other companies (e.g. media agencies, DMPs) to set cookies in order to analyse the use of online advertising and content and to present you with specific adverts of interest to you on the online platforms we market, based on your preferences. When you log in to our app, it will, if you wish, store an encrypted login credential on your device so that you do not have to log in again each time you open the app. If you wish, you can further protect this identifier using your device’s facial or fingerprint recognition. This verification takes place exclusively on your device. Biometric data is not transmitted to us and is not accessible to us. You can disable both functions in your account at any time; the stored identifier will then be deleted immediately.
§ 17 Users‘ rights
- You have the right, upon request and free of charge, to obtain information about the personal data we hold about you.

Where users‘ data is not deleted because it is required for other, legally permissible purposes, its processing will be restricted. This means that the data will be blocked and not processed for any other purposes. This applies, for example, to users‘ data which must be retained for commercial or tax law reasons. § 15 Right to object Users may object at any time to the future processing of their personal data in accordance with the statutory provisions. In particular, the objection may relate to processing for the purposes of direct marketing. § 16 Notifications regarding current content
- Email newsletter To subscribe to our newsletter, you must enter your name and email address once in the appropriate field. This is necessary so that we can send you our newsletter, addressed personally to you (by name), to your email address. Your data is stored by Teneriffa News on servers within the European Union. The newsletters are then sent via the external service provider „Mailersend“, which specialises in email distribution: MailerSend, Inc., 228 Park Ave S, PMB 54955, New York, New York 10003-1502, US. For the purpose of sending the newsletter, the user’s name and email address, as well as the content of the email at the time of sending, are transferred to the service provider on a one-off basis. The service provider stores the data for a period of two weeks and then deletes it. This serves the sole purpose of delivering our email newsletters on behalf of and at the request of Teneriffa News. The user consents to the following data being transferred for this purpose and being visible within the emails: the user’s name and email address. In order to ensure our newsletter remains interesting in the long term, we collect data – within the scope of our legitimate interest (i.e. an interest in analysis and optimisation within the meaning of Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR) – on when each email was opened and which links within it were clicked. By subscribing to the newsletter, you consent to this data collection. You may cancel your subscription at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link within the emails.
