The German-speaking Catholic parish in Puerto de la Cruz is named after St Michael and holds its services in the San Telmo Chapel on the seafront promenade. Mass times change twice a year: in winter, there are four services a week, whilst from April to October only the Sunday service takes place. Church service times at the Chapel of San Telmo
From November to the end of March, when most German-speaking visitors are on the island, the parish holds services four times a week: Holy Mass on Wednesdays at 6 pm, the Vigil Mass on Saturdays at 6 pm, and Sunday Mass at 10 am and 11.30 am.
From April to the end of October, there is only one service left: the Sunday Mass at 10.30 am. Anyone visiting in the summer should bear this change in mind, as it is the most common source of confusion for visitors.

The San Telmo Chapel on the promenade
The chapel is situated right on the seafront promenade on Calle de San Telmo, opposite the McDonald’s and next to the Loro Park funicular station. If you’re looking for it on a map service, the easiest way is to search for ‚Ermita de San Telmo‘.
It is named after Saint Telmo, the patron saint of sailors and fishermen. A statue of him stands at the high altar.
The chapel is open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm, even outside of church services. During these hours, a contact person is on site, and on Wednesdays there is usually a priest present as well. Anyone wishing to speak to someone or requesting a home visit – for example, for birthdays or wedding anniversaries – can contact the parish on the numbers listed above.
St Michael’s Bookshop
The parish runs a German-language library. The book café will reopen from 10 November 2026 at the usual times: Tuesdays from 2.30 pm to 5 pm. Outside the season, books may be borrowed by prior arrangement over the telephone.
There is also an online borrowing service: on the parish website, you can download a table listing the available books, from which you can reserve titles using the contact form. The books will be ready for collection the following Tuesday. A deposit of ten euros is required per title.
German-language Masses in the south of Tenerife
In the south of the island, there is also a Catholic service in German during the winter months. In Los Cristianos, Father Don José celebrates the Saturday evening Mass in German at 5.30 pm in the parish church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
Parish events
As well as church services, St Michael’s organises concerts, theatre evenings and cabaret. The programme for the season is finalised from mid-October, and the dates are published in the parish newsletter.
