During the Romería in La Florida, a district of La Orotava, the whole community is out in force. It is a festival that unites young and old, bringing locals and visitors together. Even the youngest children take part with great enthusiasm. Here, the patron saint, Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, is honoured.

As is always the case at local fiestas, the traditional costumes of La Orotava dominate the scene. The red bodices, embroidered with floral motifs, and the striped skirts are always a feast for the eyes. Even the youngest are already taking part - as this little boy on the donkey shows.

As always, the procession was accompanied by music and folklore from the Canary Islands - all played, sung and danced live, without any amplification or playback. This allowed visitors to experience the distinctive sound of traditional Canarian musical instruments up close - as well as plenty of animals.

Refreshments are also on offer - with regional specialities served to visitors from the festively decorated trolleys: bread, eggs, potatoes, as well as meat and sausages from local farmers, freshly cooked on the mobile barbecue mounted at the rear of each float.
