Seven restaurants keep Yaiza fed beneath the Timanfaya cones

← All restaurants in Lanzarote

As of: July 2026 (updated regularly)

Yaiza is situated in the south-west of Lanzarote; its whitewashed houses stand amongst the volcanic cones of Timanfaya. There are seven restaurants in the village, but there isn’t much of a dining scene here. It is precisely this scarcity that sets Yaiza’s best restaurants apart. At La Casona de Yaiza on Calle Valle de Fenauso, 747 guests have awarded it 4.7 stars. Hardly any other restaurant in the south of the island achieves this rating. Diners here find themselves sitting amongst the locals. Ficus trees provide shade for the terraces, beyond which lies the landscape of the ‚fire mountains‘.

Village cuisine beneath the volcanic sky: Yaiza’s restaurant scene

Between 2 pm and 4 pm, the tables fill up the most; the ‚menú del día‘, comprising three courses and a drink, costs between 10 and 13 euros. In the evenings, the kitchens don’t open until 9 pm – this Canary Islands pace comes as a surprise to those used to eating earlier. At La Era Restaurante on Calle el Barranco, cash is accepted more readily than cards. A knowledge of Spanish comes in handy at the bar, as menus in English are rarely available. This low-key approach is as much a part of Yaiza as the parish church of the Virgen de los Remedios, the town’s patron saint.

Tips for your visit

Two bars have the highest ratings. The Playa Dorada restaurant has 6,835 reviews, whilst 7 Hojas on Calle Vista de Yaiza follows with 3,593 reviews and 4.5 stars. Several menus feature Malvasia from nearby La Geria, where vines grow in volcanic ash pits. These are accompanied by papas arrugadas with mojo and fish from the south-west coast. The village’s only café serves barraquito in the afternoon, overlooking the plaza.

La Bodega de Santiago on Calle Montañas del Fuego has 2,547 reviews and a 4.3-star rating. The wine bar serves dry white wines from the local area, accompanied by goat’s cheese. Its proximity to Timanfaya draws travellers to this bar on their way back from the ‚Fire Mountains‘. On Av. Marítima, Don Giovanni serves Italian cuisine, whilst El Campo on Calle Vista de Yaiza has welcomed 1,776 guests.

Frequently Asked Questions

What vegetarian options do restaurants in Yaiza offer?

The seven restaurants in Yaiza serve grilled vegetables, salads and the speciality ‚papas arrugadas‘ from the Canary Islands with mojo sauce. They also offer a selection of cheeses and local produce from the surrounding area; at La Bodega de Santiago, for example, you can find local goat’s cheese. Wines from the neighbouring La Geria region pair well with these meat-free dishes.

When is the best time to visit the restaurants in Yaiza?

It’s well worth a visit after a tour of Timanfaya National Park or the La Geria wine-growing region. During the festival of the patron saint, the Virgen de los Remedios, the town gets considerably busier. In the evening, the whitewashed village is quiet, but then the terraces of 7 Hojas and La Casona de Yaiza fill up.

When are restaurants in Yaiza open?

The restaurants in Yaiza serve lunch and dinner, often with a break in the afternoon. Many open for lunch between 12 noon and 3 pm and for dinner from around 7 pm, with a few not opening until around 9 pm. It’s best to check with the restaurant in question, as some have a day off.
