Before the crisis, tourists in the Canary Islands spent an average of 1,443 euros per person per holiday. The Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE) now puts the figure at 1,742 euros per person per holiday, which lasted on average about one and a half weeks.
These are all average figures. So it’s certainly possible to find much cheaper options – and, of course, more expensive ones too. We provide a clear overview of the costs involved in different types of holidays in the Canary Islands – and have tips for some particularly good deals.

If you prefer to book independently, you’ll have much more flexibility. However, this does require a little more time to plan. We’ll outline the costs for both ways of spending a holiday in the Canary Islands.
Package holiday deals for Tenerife, Gran Canaria and other destinations

How much does a flight to the Canary Islands cost?
If you’re booking a single flight, you should expect to pay between 150 and 400 euros. The wide price range is down to the significant changes in how people travel these days. This is because airlines now usually quote prices that include only hand luggage. For the vast majority of travellers, this isn’t enough. So if you’re travelling to the Canary Islands with a suitcase, you should expect to pay more than 200 euros for a return flight. Of course, there are exceptions in the form of particularly attractive deals. Above all, it depends on when you’re travelling. It’s always worth comparing prices.
Flights to the Canary Islands on a tight budget: 250 to 550 euros, including hand luggage and a suitcase (20 kg)
Flights to the Canary Islands in Premium Economy or Business Class: 550 to 1,200 euros, including hand luggage and a suitcase (30 kg)
How much do hotels cost in the Canary Islands?
Hotels in Tenerife, Fuerteventura or Gran Canaria in the budget two-star category cost from 70 euros per night upwards. In the three-star category, a night’s stay including breakfast costs from around 90 euros.
Four-star hotels in the Canary Islands generally cost from 110 euros per night, including breakfast, and prices are on the rise. Luxury hotels, meanwhile, start at around 150 euros – with the upper limit virtually unlimited.
How much do day trips cost in the Canary Islands?

There is also the Mount Teide cable car. This takes you to the top of Spain’s highest mountain. A return ticket costs 40 euros. On Gran Canaria, for example, there are ‚canyoning‘ excursions costing around 65 to 85 euros. And a catamaran trip from Fuerteventura costs around 60 euros per person. The beaches are free to use.
How much does it cost to hire a car in the Canary Islands?
Car hire in the Canary Islands can be booked from 35 euros per day. If you’d prefer to travel in a mid-range car or even an SUV, you should budget from 50 euros a day. How much does it cost to eat out on Tenerife?
Eating out has also become slightly more expensive in recent months. Nevertheless, there are ways to get a filling meal for as little as around ten euros per person. However, if you want to eat well, you should budget for around 25 to 35 euros per person.
