Carnival on Tenerife

Puerto de la Cruz carnival parade rescheduled for Saturday 15 March

Rain forced the Coso Apoteosis del Carnaval to be called off last weekend. The procession will now set off at 4pm as usual, with everyone involved having signed up to the new date.

Rain and more rain meant that the carnival on Tenerife wasn’t cancelled entirely, but parts of it were. One of the highlights of Puerto de la Cruz: the Coso Apoteosis del Carnaval – the grand carnival parade in the port city. That too was cancelled last Saturday.

The city council put the carnival revellers off until an alternative date. „Stay tuned, we’ll let you know the new date soon,“ the town hall announced in an „Importante Anuncio“ – an important announcement – decorated with little raincloud emojis, in keeping with the weekend’s weather.

The promise has been kept: the new date has now been set: the Coso, as the parade is often called for short by the Canarians, is set to take place this coming weekend.

New date set for the carnival parade in Puerto de la Cruz

In the hope of better weather, Saturday 15 March has been agreed upon. The Coso is set to start at 4 pm as usual – just a week later than originally planned.

There was no question of not giving one of the most important events of the carnival in Puerto de la Cruz a second chance. Everyone involved has agreed to the new date.

In its announcement, the city thanked the carnival fans for their understanding and patience – and is now looking forward to making up for the event this coming weekend.
