Puerto de la Cruz

Puerto de la Cruz gains its first city bus with line 385

The circular route from the bus station calls at 21 stops, taking in El Durazno, El Botánico, Hospiten Bellevue and the Casco Botánico health centre. Buses run 18 times a day, every 45 minutes from 7.15 am to 9.05 pm.

Residents of Puerto de la Cruz have been calling for it for years. Now, at last, the council and the public bus operator Titsa have responded: the city in the north of Tenerife has received its first city bus. Since Monday, the number 385 has been making its rounds through the city’s streets.

This connects the key areas of the city centre with the large open spaces and major transport hubs. And even though passenger numbers were low on the first day, the new bus route is regarded as a milestone, particularly for commuters and visitors.

Local residents in particular, who have been forced to move to the outskirts due to rising rents, now have better access to the city centre’s amenities and medical services thanks to the new bus service. From now on, the 385 bus will pass through these areas several times a day:

The new bus route 385 operates as a circular service. The route begins at the bus station in Puerto de la Cruz (Photos available here). From there, it passes six stops on its way to El Durazno. This is already the highest point of the route.

From there, the route gradually heads downhill again towards the Botanical Gardens. From El Botánico and La Paz, the route passes the Hospiten Bellevue hospital. The Linea 385 then passes Taoro Park and, finally, the Casco Botánico health centre. From there, the route returns to the starting point.

The circular route comprises 21 stops. Visitors to Puerto de la Cruz can also use the bus to travel via the town’s coach station. This connects Santa Cruz, as well as the north and south airports, with the town.

David Hernández, the town hall official responsible for town planning, said at the launch: „Route 385 will finally enable residents of El Taoro to use public transport to reach health centres or their homes.“ He added that it would „enable those living in the El Botánico area to take the bus to the clinic“.

Initially, small buses are to be used on this route. Should demand increase during peak times or in general, it will be possible to switch to larger buses.

The new number 385 bus departs daily from Puerto de la Cruz bus station between 7.15 am and 9.05 pm. The journey takes just ten minutes to reach El Durazno. From there, the route then gradually heads downhill. The bus runs 18 times a day, every 45 minutes.
