The Fiestas del Julio, the biggest festivities of the summer holidays, are coming up in Puerto de la Cruz. The town council unveiled the programme on Tuesday. The July festivities are among the most important events in the town’s calendar.

The presentation was attended by Mayor Leopoldo Afonso, the festival organiser Luis Javier González and the parish priest of the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia, Father Ángel Andrés Blanco. Representatives of the three brotherhoods were also present, as were the artistic director of the gala, Luis Torres, and the designer of the festival poster, Jonás Emanuel.

The Great July Festivals are among the oldest traditions of this port city in northern Tenerife. They combine religion, culture, music and community involvement into a programme lasting several days. At the heart of the celebrations is the veneration of three patron saints, whose brotherhoods have shaped the town’s religious and social life for generations. The festivities feature maritime elements, reflecting the close connection between Puerto de la Cruz – once one of Tenerife’s most important ports – and the sea. The programme includes the following highlights:

This year’s programme includes cultural, religious, entertainment and folk events for locals and visitors alike. Mayor Afonso thanked everyone involved, including the associations, brotherhoods, municipal staff and local organisations. The celebrations are „an essential part of Puerto de la Cruz’s identity“, said the town’s mayor. Like almost no other event, the Fiestas del Julio express the connection between faith, maritime tradition, community life and pride in the town, Afonso added.

Luis Javier González, the Fiestas Officer at Puerto de la Cruz Town Hall, emphasised that the programme is aimed at all age groups and the whole family. The programme includes the Gorgoritos, the Noche en Blanco at the Lago Martiánez outdoor swimming pool, the Baile de Magos with a dinner from the Canary Islands, and the Noche de los Tributos on the harbour promenade. Also featured are the Miss Universe Spain competition and the Tabaiba Sustainable Fashion event.

González cited the boat procession as one of the most moving and most well-attended events. The city council’s aim, he said, is to offer „lively, inclusive, safe and open festivals“. Everyone should find a reason to take to the streets and feel part of the city.

July Festivals: Puerto de la Cruz aims to attract young people

Father Ángel Andrés Blanco and the abbots and priors of the brotherhoods invited people to take part in the liturgical celebrations. They highlighted the spiritual and communal significance of festivals that have their roots in faith and tradition. The parish priest also announced changes within the brotherhoods. These are primarily intended to encourage the participation of young people and to continue a religious heritage deeply rooted in the local community.

The gala’s artistic director, Luis Torres, said that a key aim of this year’s event was to reconnect the gala more closely with the audience. He is focusing on an accessible and carefully crafted format designed to move the audience.

Poster designer Jonás Emanuel explained that his work highlights the three most revered images of Puerto de la Cruz: the Señor del Gran Poder de Dios, the Holy Virgin of Carmen and San Telmo. The composition is intended to reflect the symbolic, spiritual and popular power of the festivities. The unveiling of the programme marks the start of the countdown to the Great July Festivities, during which Puerto de la Cruz once again immerses itself in its traditions and history. The Town Hall plans to publish details of the programme via its social media channels.
