The gas network supplies the whole of Costa Adeje. In its current form, it must be decommissioned. The gas network, which runs beneath Siam Park in the south of Tenerife, is at risk. An official document refers to an „increased safety risk“ for the region.
According to the documents, the reason is „various construction works on the private land belonging to Siam Park“. These are said to have led to irregularities in the gas supply in the south of Tenerife, „which jeopardise the safety of the facility“.
A warning to this effect was issued as early as 2024. It was addressed to the water park operator, the relevant ministry and the local council. However, no action has been taken so far. Until now.
New gas supply for southern Tenerife
The network begins with a facility in the north-western part of the park. This is where the ratio of air to propane is adjusted. From Siam Park, the gas pipeline for the tourist resort in the south of the Canary Islands stretches for around 15 kilometres. It crosses the motorway and runs all the way to the coast.
When issues arose with the gas supply in connection with the works, an investigation was launched immediately. The supplier, Gasificadora Regional Canaria, shared all the findings regarding the faults, as it considered this to be a safety issue „for people and property“.
After almost a year of inaction, there are now plans to make progress on this issue. The plan is to relocate the gas supply from ‚the park’s private land‘ to public land. This is intended to prevent future works from causing further problems regarding safety and supply.
The document, which is available for public inspection, proposes continuing operations until the new facility can take over. This would ensure the supply of gas to the community. Once construction is complete, there may be isolated outages whilst the switchover is taking place, but these would be kept to a minimum.
