The price of diesel on El Hierro has risen by 2.8 cents per litre in the space of a week. The small island has only a few petrol stations. The average price there was 1.772 euros. No other island has seen higher fuel prices recently.
The average price of diesel in the Canary Islands currently stands at 1.543 euros. That is 0.9 cents more than a week ago. On average across all petrol stations, premium petrol costs 1.451 euros, which is exactly the same as the previous week. At least on average. Here, too, there are significant regional differences.
The price of diesel had previously reached the highest level on record in the Canary Islands. This record has now been broken once again. Here is a comparison:
Diesel prices in the Canary Islands have risen again
Depending on the fuel type, the ranking of the most expensive islands in the Canary Islands comparison has shifted. For diesel, La Gomera is particularly expensive and Fuerteventura is comparatively cheap. For petrol, the picture is different: Gran Canaria comes out relatively cheap, whilst La Gomera remains the most expensive island.
The spread between the extremes this week is 29.8 cents for diesel and 23.9 cents for petrol. Four of the seven islands are above the Canary Islands average for diesel, whilst five are above it for petrol.
The following table shows the price of diesel on the seven largest Canary Islands. As well as the island-wide average, it shows the price at the cheapest petrol station, the difference from the Canary Islands average, and the number of petrol stations included in the analysis.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fuerteventura | 1.485 euros | 1.389 euros | 5.8 cents cheaper | 27 |

A look at petrol prices illustrates particularly clearly just how much prices can vary within a single island: the cheapest petrol station in the Canary Islands was most recently found on Gran Canaria. It was 17.3 cents below the island’s average there.
| Rank | Island | Average price | Cheapest petrol station | Difference from Canary Islands average | Petrol stations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Gran Canaria | 1.417 euros | 1.244 euros | 3.4 cents lower | 184 |

Fuel prices and the associated subsidies in the Canary Islands are based on those in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, which serve as benchmarks. In Tenerife, new record highs for fuel prices were recently recorded. As early as the previous week, there was a difference of around 30 cents between the most expensive and the cheapest Canary Islands.
