A two-toed sloth has been born at Loro Parque. The mother, Pauline, comes from Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna. She arrived in Tenerife in 2021 . At Loro Parque, she met the male, Hugo. Now they have a baby.

Pauline and Hugo are said to be a happy couple. The mother and her cub are in excellent health, the zoo in Puerto de la Cruz added. Vets examine the mother and her cub regularly.

Loro Parque on Tenerife always places great emphasis on species conservation in its work. The birth of the sloth is said to underline the role of zoological institutions in the conservation of rare animal species. Sloths are considered to be at risk of extinction.

Loro Parque on Tenerife is regularly criticised by animal rights campaigners for keeping animals in captivity. The orca programme, in particular – which has also recently welcomed a new arrival – is a source of considerable controversy.
