Day trips in Tenerife

Glass walkway at Mirador La Baranda frames Teide and the Atlantic

The viewpoint above El Sauzal pairs a see-through platform with a bar serving affordable coffee and tapas. Access is step-free, and the Casa del Vino is within walking distance.

For those who are afraid of heights, the glass-bottomed platform is a bit of a challenge. It’s just as well that La Baranda bar also offers the perfect view across the Orotava Valley and of Mount Teide from its terrace.

After all, the views across the north coast of Tenerife are worth seeing from almost anywhere. But there are, of course, some particularly beautiful views. And that is precisely what El Sauzal is known for. There, the Bar La Baranda is considered one of the most beautiful vantage points in the north of Tenerife.

The view of Mount Teide is stunning in sunny weather. Below, the Atlantic Ocean shimmers in deep blue; above it, the Orotava Valley stretches out in lush green; and towering above it all, Mount Teide stands in all its typical splendour – sometimes even wearing a white cap.

The Mirador La Baranda is situated next to the bar of the same name. Anyone expecting overpriced food and poor quality at a viewpoint is mistaken. The bar certainly belongs to the upmarket category – but this applies not only to the prices, but also to the service and the range on offer.

A coffee is very reasonably priced and the tapas are delicious. That’s another reason why there are always locals amongst the guests, who also appreciate the bar.

The viewing platform can accommodate several people. Nevertheless, it is not uncommon for only two of them to make their way up there. One poses against the picturesque backdrop, whilst the other snaps a few photos from a distance of two or three metres – whether for Instagram or the family photo album. The view and the setting are equally worth capturing for both.

How to get to the Mirador La Baranda on Tenerife

You can reach the Mirador La Baranda via the TF-5 northern motorway. Take the El Sauzal exit, which leads to a roundabout. Simply follow the signs for ‚Casa del Vino‘. Just a few metres further on is ‚Bar La Baranda‘. To the left of the bar is the old viewpoint, whilst inside the bar itself you’ll find the glass walkway described above.

By the way: the Casa del Vino isn’t far away. From La Baranda, it’s even within walking distance. It’s always worth a visit. This is especially true for those who don’t have to drive back. Because, as the name suggests, they have some excellent wines there. You can read more about this in our article here.

The Mirador La Baranda is accessible to all. This means that even people with walking difficulties can visit without any problems. We hope you have a great time – and, of course, take some lovely photos in glorious sunshine!
