Arafo is a small municipality in the north-east of Tenerife. The town is home to around 5,500 residents. The capital, Santa Cruz, lies to the north-east. Arafo is situated some way inland. The surrounding area is heavily characterised by agriculture. Arafo is famous for its arts and crafts, various markets and exhibitions, as well as numerous chapels known throughout Tenerife. The chalk-white houses are particularly striking as soon as you enter the town. The church square, with the parish church of San Juan Degollado, is also easily recognisable. This Catholic church houses some remarkable wood carvings by the famous artist Pablo Serrano. Arafo lies at an average altitude of 450 metres above sea level. The town, which covers an area of just around 34 square kilometres, is well worth a visit.
