The market in La Frontera has been running since 2004 and has had a permanent site in Plaza Benito Padrón in the El Golfo valley since 2011. It takes place on Sundays and combines the sale of regional produce with a regular community event.
The roughly 25 stalls offer, amongst other things, handicrafts, wickerwork, textiles and agricultural produce. The range also includes plants and flowers, baked goods, and fruit and vegetables. Also mentioned are kitchen utensils made from sabina wood, the distinctive juniper wood that is closely associated with the island of El Hierro.
The market is complemented by a cultural programme and activities. According to the information available, these include puppet theatre, mime, a caricaturist, musical performances and workshops on horticulture. Thus, the market is not only a sales venue for producers, craftspeople and small local shops, but also a regular meeting place with a community programme.
