The short films that make up the list of winners from the latest edition of San Rafael en Corto will be screened on Fuerteventura. The series is intended as a platform for the creation and dissemination of Canarian film works and, according to the announcement, is regarded as the oldest continuously running venue of its kind in the Canary Islands for directors and actors from the region.
The screenings will be followed by a discussion with Bright Martins. The 23-year-old filmmaker and creative director was born in the Canary Islands and has Nigerian roots. His work is shaped by the cultural connection between his mother's history, his African identity and the country in which he grew up.
Martins describes how he uses documentary cinema as a bridge between cultures. In doing so, he works with perspectives rooted in lived experiences. The evening thus combines film screenings with a subsequent discussion on migration and cultural identity.
The event begins at 19:00 at the Auditorio Insular de Fuerteventura in Puerto del Rosario. Admission is free; a free ticket is available via the ticket link provided.
