Flag-raising ceremony and procession at the Rosario Festival in La Oliva
The Rosario Festival officially begins with the raising of the flag in honour of the Virgen del Rosario and a procession through La Oliva. The procession features the 'Papahuevos', the large papier-mâché heads typical of Canary Islands festivals, and a batucada drumming group. The event is also suitable for families and takes place around the church square in the town centre.

The Nuestra Señora del Rosario festival gets underway in the square by the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria in La Oliva. There, in the evening, the flag is raised in honour of the Virgen del Rosario. This is followed by a procession through the town.
The procession features Papahuevos and a batucada. During the day, the square and the streets are already being decorated. The Rosario festival in La Oliva then continues until Sunday, 18 October.
The opening event is organised by the La Oliva Municipal Festivities Office in collaboration with the Festivities Committee and the Raíz del Pueblo Cultural Association. The Festivities Office reserves the right to make changes to times and performances without prior notice.
