Bernarda’s Daughters: a dance piece at the Teatro Pérez Galdós

This dance piece by Taiat Dansa draws on Federico García Lorca's «The House of Bernarda Alba» and explores themes of control, confinement and the struggle for freedom. Bernarda remains in the background as an invisible authority, whilst seven female dancers bring the tensions between the five daughters to life on stage. The performance lasts approximately 75 minutes without an interval and is accompanied by live music and sound effects.

Taiat Dansa transforms the character of Bernarda into an invisible, almost immaterial force. The focus is on her five daughters, their confined lives, their fears and their conflicts. The piece shows how they observe one another and act in accordance with moral expectations. This creates a picture of control, suppressed femininity, desire, resistance and violence.

The choreography is by Meritxell Barberá and Inma García, in collaboration with the dancers Lara Misó, Julia Cambra, Irene de la Rosa, Mariona Jaume, Eila Valls, Wilma Puentes and Celia Sandoya. The piece will be performed in the Sala Principal of the Teatro Pérez Galdós. The production is accompanied musically by the composition 'CALDO' by David Barberá, complemented by live elements featuring the soprano Èlia Casanova, the bassist Miguel Villanueva and a voice-over by Natalia García.

Further artistic contributions come from Paula Ortíz for the texts and Roberto Fratini for the dramaturgy. The set, lighting, audiovisual design and costumes are by Alessio Meloni, Rodrigo Ortega, Sergi Palau and Estudio Savage. The performance begins at 20:00 and, according to the published schedule, ends at 21:15.
