"Spanish Rock Swings" is a production by the Perinké Big Band as part of the El Rincón del Jazz series at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus. The programme takes well-known Spanish rock anthems and reimagines them for a large jazz ensemble. It is inspired by Paul Anka's album "Rock Swings", with the new big band arrangements written by Claudio Marrero.
The focus is on Litus, who guides the audience through the evening as a singer, composer and showman. Songs by artists such as Fito, Bunbury, Robe Iniesta and Rosendo are given a fresh interpretation. According to the event description, the energy of the originals is preserved, but the songs are re-orchestrated with brass sections, a rhythm section and big-band textures.
The band line-up features Eduardo Naranjo Afonso, José Abián Benítez Santana, Gonzalo Echedey Angulo Monzón, Eliseo Bordón García and Candy González Domínguez on saxophones. The trombones are played by Orlando González Mújica, Javier Herrera Gabás, Franklin Cárdenes Rodríguez and Carlos Bieito Alonso, whilst the trumpets are played by Juan Ramón Martín Trujillo, Silvia Jiménez Hernández, Juan Antonio Guerrero Ortiz and Antonio Jorge Ojeda García. The rhythm section comprises Amelia J. Gutiérrez Cano on percussion, Samuel Medina Gutiérrez on drums, Rayko León Ojeda on piano, Leandro Ojeda Santana on double bass and electric bass, and Luis J. Merino Castaño on guitar. Ximo Martínez Castelló is the artistic and musical director, whilst José Ortega is responsible for sound.
The performance on Friday, 18 December, begins at 20:30 in the Sala Jerónimo Saavedra at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The estimated duration is 75 minutes. A further performance is scheduled for Saturday, 19 December, at the same time.
