The 15th Popular New Year's Concert by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Las Palmas has been a fixture of the Christmas season in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for many years. The concert takes place in the Sala Sinfónica at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, with four performances spread over two days.
Rafael Sánchez-Araña will be conducting. The soloists include the soprano Sofía Esparza, the tenor Alejandro Cerro and the saxophonist Daniel Valerón. They will be joined by the Coro de la Sinfónica de Las Palmas, conducted by Maite Robaina.
The programme combines festive excerpts from major operatic and symphonic works. These include fragments from opera, zarzuela and the symphonic repertoire with a Christmas theme. A zarzuela is a form of Spanish musical theatre featuring both spoken and sung sections.
Each performance lasts around 90 minutes and has no interval. Doors open 45 minutes before the concert begins.
