The Sun Dance Family Sessions are organised by the Laboratorio de Artes Vivas y Ciudadanía de Tenerife, TenerifeLAV for short, and the Neeve-Micromusic collective, which specialises in contemporary electronic music. The series has been running since 2016 in the Sala de Cámara at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna.
Each session begins with a short physical warm-up and some initial movement exercises. This is followed by the playful part, during which children and adults dance together. The session is led by a DJ and a movement specialist.
Since the series began, around thirty sessions have taken place in the Sala de Cámara, with more than 1,500 people taking part, according to the organisers. Places for people with reduced mobility are allocated by telephone or at the Teatro Leal box office. On Sundays, the box office opens two hours before the start.
