Early this morning, the Maritime Rescue Service brought ashore 145 people at La Restinga who were travelling in a cayuco spotted south of El Hierro.
Following the two expeditions assisted on Sunday on this island, where 309 people arrived, three of whom had died, according to the final tally provided by 112, the Salvamar Diphda was called into action again in the early hours of this morning.
Its crew has escorted a new group comprising 132 men, 5 women and 8 minors of sub-Saharan origin to port.
El Hierro: The cayuco was at sea for nine days
According to the migrants‘ own account, they had made a nine-day journey from Niodior (Senegal), and the boat was carrying people from Senegal, The Gambia, Mali and Guinea-Conakry.
They all arrived in La Restinga at 06.25, in good health, accompanied by this Maritime Rescue vessel, according to a spokesperson for the state-owned organisation who spoke to EFE.
