Just before the western tip of Tenerife, there’s a small, secluded restaurant. It feels like the last vestige of civilisation before the flood. You can enjoy a meal whilst looking out over the western tip of the Canary Islands, the Punta de Teno. And it’s not just the fantastic view – the food is absolutely delicious too.
Even as you take your final steps towards the terrace, you can tell that you’re in for a lovely time. The „El Burgado“ restaurant is almost always full. And yet the welcome is not only in several languages, but also very friendly.
Awnings flutter in the wind, whilst in the background the Atlantic roars. And above it all, the sun shines. What sounds like a film set becomes reality at Buenavista, in the north-west of the largest of the Canary Islands. Passing the historic town centre, the path leads to the town’s golf course. If you leave that to your right, you’ll reach the western end of the public road network of Tenerife. And there you’ll have a brilliant time.
Restaurante „El Burgado“ on Tenerife – patience pays off
You’ll need to bring some with you, too. Because anyone expecting a quick meal is in for a surprise. The pace is more reminiscent of the little stream that runs right through the restaurant and trickles leisurely across the terrace into the sea. Right there, where guests‘ views stretch to the rocky formation at the northern tip of Tenerife.
Anyone who pops into „El Burgado“ is rarely alone. And where there’s always a lot going on, patience is required – even when there are four members of staff serving. That’s when the kitchen is under pressure. So it does take a little while for food and drinks to reach the table.
„El Burgado“ on Tenerife: Delicious tapas and fresh fish
By then, at the very latest, however, the world around you slows down. Because „El Burgado“ serves ice-cold and, as you’d expect, refreshing drinks. These are accompanied by fresh fish and delicious tapas.
Unlike many of their competitors, the Gambas al Ajillo are not fried in oil with a few pieces of garlic. As well as a generous portion of prawns, the dish also contains dozens of slices of fresh garlic, chilli and spices. This creates a flavour that you won’t find just anywhere in the Canary Islands.

Another real gem is the grilled cheese with mojos and palm honey. And the papas arrugadas are also excellent. This is partly because the mojos are prepared differently there than in many other restaurants on Tenerife.
Western Tenerife: Slightly more expensive, but very good and beautiful
On the terrace, you’ll also find guests looking contentedly at their paella or the fish of the day. They all have one thing in common: at the end of their visit, they tend to pay a slightly higher bill – but with a satisfied smile on their faces.
Anyone visiting or passing through Buenavista del Norte should allow some time to explore the Camino del Rincón and stop off at the „El Burgado“ restaurant at the end of it.
