The focus is on the colloquium 'El legado arquitectónico de Betancuria. Huellas de una memoria protegida'. This is based on the work on the Betancuria heritage catalogue, a tool for recording, protecting and communicating the town's architectural heritage.
The speakers will provide an introduction to the traditional architecture of the municipal area and explain how its value can be interpreted. Topics will include the various building types, the construction techniques and materials used, and how the buildings adapt to their surroundings. The focus is not only on the historical and architectural significance, but also on the ethnographic value of this heritage.
The evening will also highlight why the identification, documentation and protection of this built heritage are important. Betancuria's built heritage is regarded as an essential part of the local identity and collective memory of Fuerteventura. The event will take place at the Archivo General Insular in Puerto del Rosario.
