The series is subtitled "una mirada al registro arqueológico invisible" and focuses on plant remains, which are often barely visible in archaeological finds. In three lectures, experts from the University of La Laguna will demonstrate how pollen, charcoal residues and phytoliths can be used to shed light on past landscapes and land-use patterns.
The programme will also cover the use of wood by the indigenous population of Fuerteventura, as well as techniques of basket weaving and rope-making. The event thus brings together environmental history, everyday culture and the island's material heritage.
The speakers are Dr Paloma Vidal Matutano, a professor at the Universidad de La Laguna; postdoctoral researcher Dr María Herrero Otal; and Dr Álvaro Castilla Beltrán, also from the Universidad de La Laguna. The event begins at 19:00 at the Museo Arqueológico de Fuerteventura in Betancuria. Admission is free.
