“La barraca” is the second and final performance of this production at the Teatro Cuyás in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Marta Torres has adapted Vicente Blasco Ibáñez's novel for the stage, and Magüi Mira is directing. The story centres on the family of Batiste Borrull, who settle on a field in the Valencian Huerta that was previously farmed by another family.

From the outset, they face hostility from the local community. The local tenant farmers had decided to leave the fields fallow as a sign of resistance against the landowners. With the arrival of the newcomers, the conflict intensifies and escalates into a tragedy. The stage adaptation transposes the story to the present day and links it to issues such as rising rents, evictions, harassment and the conflict between long-established residents and newcomers.

The cast includes Daniel Albaladejo, Antonio Hortelano, Patricia Ross, Jorge Mayor, Antonio Sansano, Claudia Taboada, Elena Alfárez and Jaime Riba. The performance begins at 19:30 and lasts one hour and 15 minutes. Tickets are available for between 12 and 23 euros.
