The Canary Islands have announced a second round of nursery enrolment. For the coming academic year (2026/2027), this provides another opportunity to apply for places at state-run nurseries in the Canary Islands.
The Canary Islands Ministry of Education has issued a call for tenders under an exceptional procedure for this purpose. It is intended to regulate the first cycle of pre-school education for this year group. The procedure applies to all publicly-run institutions.
This forthcoming admissions round covers children of pre-primary school age. In the Canary Islands, significantly fewer state school places have recently been made available to this age group in particular than to older age groups.
According to the Canary Islands government, the additional procedure is intended to provide an opportunity for families who were unsuccessful in the regular allocation round. A number of further announcements have also been published.
Canary Islands amend housing support scheme
This second allocation round was announced on Thursday in the official Canary Islands Official Gazette, the BOC. The housing support plan for the Canary Islands was also announced there. According to the statement, the Canary Islands Housing Institute is adjusting its strategic subsidy plan.
According to the BOC, this reallocation concerns housing subsidies. It also covers grants for residents of the Canary Islands. Exactly how much funding the institute is reallocating and which specific funding schemes are affected by the adjustment remains unclear for the time being. The BOC is initially laying the groundwork for further plans to be drawn up. Responsibility for this will then lie with the relevant ministries.
The housing support scheme was launched in 2024. It officially ends on 31 December this year. At the same time, the Canary Islands Government announced that it would be reorganising other programmes. These include, amongst others, the Ministry of Tourism with its Support Scheme for Tourism in the Canary Islands until 2028.
