The pension supplement in the Canary Islands will provide recipients of non-contributory pensions with an additional 400 euros in 2026. Further decisions relate to living wills and international scholarships.

The payment will be made in 2026 in two instalments of 200 euros each, in May and November 2026. The Directorate-General for Social Services and Immigration may reduce the second payment on a case-by-case basis if this would otherwise cause the household’s income to exceed the state income threshold.

This is based on the authorisation of the first payment for May on 18 May and an agreement reached by a commission comprising the Spanish State and the Canary Islands Government on 19 May to impose a cap based on the income threshold. The regulation is published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands. Further resolutions extend the deadline for the notarisation of living wills and the deadline for international scholarships:

Living wills: Submission to notaries guaranteed until 2028

The Canary Islands Ministry of Health and the Chamber of Notaries of the Canary Islands are continuing their collaboration from 3 October until 2 October 2028. Residents can continue to submit a living will in the Canary Islands to notaries on all the islands. The extension can be read here.

The original agreement was concluded by both parties on 29 September 2020. Between 3 October 2024 and 2 September 1245, 1245 valid notarised living wills had been registered. More than 500 are expected this year. This would bring the total number since the agreement was introduced to 7,000.

The Canary Islands extend the scholarship application deadline to 23 October

The Deputy Ministry for Economy and Internationalisation has extended the application deadline for the scholarship programme in the Canary Islands by five working days. Applications must be submitted via the Canary Islands Government’s online portal by midnight on 23 October. The decision can be found here.

The call for proposals for 2026 was approved by a resolution dated 2 September. The European Social Fund Plus for the Canary Islands is co-financing the programme for the period 2021 to 2027.
