To mark the conclusion of the 12th Casa África Film Festival, two films with a combined running time of 108 minutes will be screened on 8 October. “Les jardins du paradis” lasts 16 minutes and was awarded Best Short Film at the Tarifa and Tangier African Film Festival. Set on the outskirts of Casablanca, the film tells the story of Naima and her eleven-year-old son Ahmed, who are forced to leave their shanty town, whilst only the missing father is authorised to sign the paperwork for the school transfer.
This will be followed by “Promis le ciel”, which runs for 92 minutes. The feature film, which won the award for Best Film, is about Marie, an Ivorian pastor and former journalist in Tunisia. Her house there becomes a refuge for other women.
“Les jardins du paradis” is screened in Darija, whilst “Promis le ciel” is screened in French and Arabic. Both screenings feature Spanish subtitles. The film festival takes place from 6 to 8 October 2026 at the Museo Elder de la Ciencia y la Tecnología in the Parque de Santa Catalina and showcases documentaries, feature films and dramas by filmmakers from Africa and the diaspora. It is organised in collaboration with the Cinenómada programme of the Tarifa and Tangier African Film Festival.
