This ensemble from the Canary Islands has been dedicated to contemporary concert music for almost a decade and is returning for the sixth edition of the Festival Contemporáneo. The ensemble brings together wind and string players and focuses on timbre, spatial detail and the precision of new music. The concert will be conducted by José María Vicente, with Leandro A. Martin serving as artistic director.
The programme features George Crumb's 'Vox Balenae' (approx. 20 minutes), 'Merengoe' by A. Corrales (8 minutes), three scenes from Tristan Murail's 'Une relecture des Kinderszenen de Robert Schumann', movements one, five and seven (approx. 7 minutes), and Murail's 'Seven Lakes Drive' (10 minutes). In addition, there will be two works by Canary Islands composers making their Canary Islands premieres: 'Poema sobre un drago' by A. Díaz González and 'Scènes Délirantes' by P. Pinero, comprising the movements 'Orinique', 'Mystérieux' and 'Lunatique', each lasting around eight minutes. Part of the repertoire was selected via an audience vote on social media.
The performers are Sara Cabrera Plasencia on the flute, Laura Delgado García on the oboe, Francisco Suárez Hernández on the clarinet, Guillermo Zarzo Sabater on the horn, Pablo Araya on the violin, Stéphane Schmalen on the viola and Ángel Luis Quintana on the cello. Admission costs 5 euros. A 20 per cent discount applies to unemployed people, young people aged between 12 and 25, students, people aged 65 and over, families with many children, and people with a degree of disability of 33 per cent or more. A special ticket for 3 euros is available for pupils at theatre, dance, circus and music schools. The number of tickets is limited.
As part of the accompanying programme, a discussion as part of the #endiálogo series on the relationship between music and nature will take place on 1 October at 18:00 at MUNA in Tenerife, featuring musicians from the ensemble. Admission is free.
