The Sonido Extremo ensemble from Extremadura specialises in the various forms of expression found in contemporary concert music and will bring the sixth edition of the Canary Islands Government's Festival Contemporáneo to a close. The ensemble is led by Jordi Francés, who is also its artistic and musical director. The concert lasts one hour and focuses on contemporary Spanish music.
The programme features five works: 'Arlecchino' by J. Planells, lasting ten minutes; 'Jenseits dieseits' by J.M. López López, lasting twelve minutes; 'Absolute!' by J. Rueda, lasting 15 minutes; 'Machaut Architektur' I and V by J. M. Sánchez Verdú, lasting ten minutes; and 'icebergs melt at night' by José Luis Perdigón, also lasting ten minutes. Perdigón's work will receive its world premiere on this evening.
Sonido Extremo works with instrumental timbres, extended playing techniques and shifting sound textures, and specialises in the performance of new music. Since its foundation in 2009, the ensemble has premiered more than 60 works and has appeared at festivals and concert series in Spain and abroad.
Seating capacity for the concert is limited. Standard admission is five euros. Pupils and students at theatre, dance, circus and music schools pay three euros. Further discounts of 20 per cent are available for, amongst others, the unemployed, young people aged between 12 and 25, students, people over 65, large families and people with a recognised disability of 33 per cent or more. The event is recommended for those aged 12 and over.
