The farmers' market in Gáldar brings local producers to the Plaza de Santiago, where they sell fresh, seasonal produce from the region. It is aimed at families and anyone who wishes to buy directly from producers. The market takes place every two weeks on Sundays from 9:00 to 13:30; entry is free. There are also tastings, prize draws for hampers and music.
Every other Sunday, the Plaza de Santiago and the surrounding area become a meeting place for buying regional food. On offer are products from the immediate vicinity and from the island, including fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, artisanal cheese, honey, wine and other locally produced goods.
The market aims to bring producers directly together with buyers and to showcase the quality of the primary sector in Gáldar and on Gran Canaria. In addition to the market stalls, there will be prize draws for hampers. There will also be tastings prepared by participants in the PFAE programmes.
Throughout the morning, musical performances will provide entertainment in the square. The farmers' market is an initiative of the municipality of Gáldar, organised by the Department for Socio-Economic Development, and forms part of the island-wide programme of agricultural, livestock and fisheries markets on Gran Canaria. It is supported by the Island Council of Gran Canaria.
