The film screening is part of the 31st edition of MASDANZA, the Canary Islands' International Festival of Contemporary Dance. It is taking place at the Teatro Guiniguada in collaboration with the Filmoteca Canaria. The MASDANZA Cinema series brings together dance and film, screening documentaries, feature films and hybrid works in which dance plays a central role, works that are rarely seen through standard distribution channels.
'Dancing Dreams. Aprendiendo con Pina Bausch' by Anne Linsel and Rainer Hoffmann follows 40 young people over a period of ten months as they work on 'Kontakthof' every Saturday in Wuppertal. The group comes from different schools and very diverse family backgrounds. Some have experience of dance, whilst others have never danced before. The film not only follows the creation of the performance, but also how the young people's thoughts, relationships and self-perception change during the rehearsals.
They are mentored by Pina Bausch and two dancers from her company, Joséphine Ann Endicott and Béatrice Billet. In this way, the film focuses on the artistic learning process, not just the final stage production. The German documentary from 2010 will be screened in a 92-minute session at the Teatro Guiniguada in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Admission is free until all seats are taken.
