The evening forms part of the 31st edition of MASDANZA, the Canary Islands' International Festival of Contemporary Dance. At the Teatro Guiniguada, four short pieces created by women will be performed, each showcasing a distinct artistic style.
The programme begins with 'Mobile Load' by Sandra Egido from Alicante. The 16-minute piece is performed by Sandra Egido and Iván Sier and explores weight, inertia and resistance. At its heart is the question of how power shifts, is distributed and is lost within a relationship through the body. This is followed by 'Supergallo' by Andrea Catania from San José in Costa Rica, 'Entre maguas' by Raquel Jara Domínguez from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Madrid, and 'Wolf' by Fay van Baar from The Hague.
'Supergallo' lasts ten minutes and explores a controlled, socially accepted form of violence through movement and the psychology of boxing. The solo won the award for best female performer at the 13th edition of MASDANZA. 'Entre maguas' runs for 17 minutes and depicts a journey through fissures in identity, memories and folklore. 'Wolf', featuring Ève-Marie Dalcourt and Elaine Meijerink, is a 20-minute piece exploring witch trials and their impact on women to this day.
The performance is recommended for ages 12 and over. Standard admission is 10 euros. A 20 per cent discount is available for the unemployed, young people aged 12 to 25, students, people aged 65 and over, large families and people with a disability rating of 33 per cent or higher. A special price of 4 euros applies to pupils at theatre, dance, circus and music schools. Proof of eligibility will be checked at the entrance.
