The stage adaptation follows two girls, Shit and Isora, who grow up in a neighbourhood in the north of Tenerife, on the slopes of the volcano. Shit lives with absent parents who work in construction and in hotels in the south, and looks up to Isora greatly. Isora is an orphan and suffers from an eating disorder. Both spend the summer oscillating between boredom and frustration, waiting for someone to take them to the beach, and trying to make sense of their burgeoning sexual desire.
Delirium Teatro faithfully captures the raw humour and discomfort of the novel's world, whilst also bringing the distinctive dialect of the Canary Islands to the stage. The result is a dramatic comedy with a distinctly Canary Islands flavour, in which friendship, family instability and female-dominated everyday life play a central role.
The performance lasts 80 minutes and takes place at the Teatro Cruce de Culturas in Cruce de Arinaga. The cultural department of the municipality of Agüimes has set the ticket price at eight euros.
