Robert Kessler, born in Jena in 1984, is a guitarist and composer. For his trio concert on Gran Canaria, he will be joined by Andreas Henze on double bass and Tobias Backhaus on drums. Together, the trio performs music spanning contemporary jazz, world music, blues and pop.
Kessler trained at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music and the Jazz Institute Berlin, studying under Kurt Rosenwinkel and Jiggs Whigham, amongst others. His debut album is entitled "Jasmin". Together with Henze and Backhaus, he recorded the trio album "Bloodline", whilst his more recent work, "Little People", focuses on the warm sound of his archtop guitar and the trio's precise interplay.
The guitarist has also worked with the New York Voices, Udo Lindenberg and Herbert Grönemeyer. The concert at the Sala Insular de Teatro is recommended for audience members aged 14 and over. The performance lasts around one hour and 15 minutes.
