Xavier de Maistre will be performing a solo recital as part of the Santa Catalina Classics 2026 series. The concert will take place at the Salones de Santa Catalina, a Royal Hideaway Hotel, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The programme features works by Handel, Liszt, Smetana, Fauré, Debussy and Renié. Smetana's 'The Moldau' in a version for solo harp is also on the programme. Afterwards, a cocktail reception will provide an opportunity to chat with the artist.
De Maistre initially studied political science in Paris and, at the age of 24, became principal harpist with the Vienna Philharmonic. In 2010, he left the orchestra to pursue a solo career. He arranges orchestral works for the harp, devotes himself to rarely performed pieces, commissions new compositions and works with harp makers on the technical development of the instrument. The French government awarded him the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. He is also a UNICEF ambassador, supports the Red Cross and has set up a foundation that provides instruments to children in poorer regions.
