The celebrations take place in the square behind the La Palma Island Council building on Avenida de Los Indianos in Santa Cruz de La Palma. The event deliberately moves the New Year's countdown into the daytime, following the Australian time zone. This means that the twelve grapes, traditionally eaten in Spain at the stroke of midnight, are handed out and eaten together well before midnight.
The programme focuses on a relaxed atmosphere with live music and an open, festive vibe. The celebration is aimed at families, locals and holidaymakers who would like to ring in the New Year together during the day, ahead of the island's New Year's Eve events in the evening. Admission is free.
