The production is a visual comedy by the Compañía Adrián Conde, inspired by silent film. At its heart is Eugenio, who works as a bellboy in a hotel and is convinced that only through hard work can he provide the best for his family. Whilst he is constantly moving other people's luggage, and, by extension, their lives, he has scarcely any time for his own.
From this starting point, the play unfolds a humorous story that draws attention to family and the question of how we choose to spend our time. Billed as family theatre, the performance combines humour with a thought-provoking dimension.
'Check Out' is part of the Fundación CajaCanarias' Otoño Cultural, which runs from 18 September to 31 October. According to the programme, the line-up also includes performances by Fabiola Socas, Benito Cabrera, José Manuel Ramos and Alberto San Juan, a talk with Mikel López Iturriaga and Mariola Cubells, and a comedy evening with Abián Díaz.
The production is directed by Adrián Conde, born in Buenos Aires in 1978. He has lived in Gijón, Asturias, since 2003, working as an illusionist, producer and director of his own plays, and serving as artistic director of various clown and magic festivals. He founded his theatre company in Gijón in 2006.
