The CajaCanarias Foundation is dedicating a retrospective exhibition to Maribel Nazco, entitled "La poética de la materia (1966-2026)". The artist was born in 1938 in Los Llanos de Aridane on La Palma and is known for her use of a variety of techniques and a wide thematic range. The exhibition features paintings, drawings and metalwork spanning six decades.

In the 1960s, Nazco was a member of the 'Nuestro Arte' group, alongside Pedro González, Enrique Lite and other artists. She studied Fine Art at the University of La Laguna and later maintained close ties with the institution, where she also served as Dean of the Faculty. In recent years, her work has once again attracted significant attention, including her participation in ARCOmadrid 2025, the inclusion of a work in the collection of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and the award of the Premio Canarias de Bellas Artes in 2021.

The exhibition also serves as a retrospective of a previous solo exhibition by Nazcos at CajaCanarias in 1991. Thirty-five years on, her artistic journey is now being revisited on her native island. The exhibition has been curated with the support of Severo Acosta, a pupil and friend of the artist as well as an expert on her work, and aims in particular to make this body of work accessible to younger generations.

It is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00, and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00. The exhibition is closed on Sundays, Mondays and public holidays. Admission is free.
