The focus is on Margaret, Duchess of Argyll, whose scandal-ridden sex life and divorce become a public spectacle. The opera traces her journey from luxury and social glamour to ruin and loneliness. Lovers, servants, the press, judges and the high society circle all play a part in this affair. This paints a picture of how a society first parades someone on display and later condemns them.
Alessandro Palumbo is the musical director, with Nicola Beller Carbone directing. Set and costume design are by Rebecca Ringst and Pier Paolo Alvaro, whilst lighting and projections are by Pedro Chamizo. Isabel Vázquez is responsible for choreography and stage movement.
The leading roles are played by Sally Matthews as the Duchess, Meghan Picerno in several roles, including Maid, Confidante, Waitress, Mistress, Rubbernecker and Society Journalist, and Vazgen Gazaryan as the Hotel Manager, Duke, Laundryman and Other Guest. The production features the LUX:NM Multimedia ensemble.
The production will be staged at the Teatro Leal on two dates: on Saturday at 19:00 and on Sunday at 18:00. Once the theatre doors have closed, no further admission will be permitted.
