Children’s Murga Competition: first preliminary rounds in Santa Cruz
At the Santa Cruz Carnival's Children's Murga Competition, groups of children take to the stage with satirical songs, percussion and elaborate costumes. A murga is a large carnival group that tackles current issues through song, accompanied by percussion. The first two preliminary rounds take place at the Recinto Ferial, where the groups perform one after the other in front of the jury and the audience.

The competition forms part of the official 2027 carnival programme in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is themed 'Roma Eterna: El Imperio del Carnaval'. The first two qualifying evenings will take place on Friday 29 January 2027 and Saturday 30 January 2027, starting at 18:30 on both days at the Recinto Ferial de Tenerife.
In the children's murgas category, girls and boys from neighbourhoods in the capital and from other municipalities follow the same tradition as the adult groups. They bring songs, creativity and costumes to the stage and perform their entries one after the other before the jury and the audience. At each stage, a decision is made as to which groups will progress to the next rounds.
The first evening is scheduled to run until 23:59. The Recinto Ferial is the large covered exhibition hall in the harbour area of Santa Cruz and the main venue for the carnival competitions. Anyone wishing to follow several stages of the competition can find the further dates in the official carnival programme.
