Espacio La Granja is once again hosting the Festival Internacional Clownbaret this year and will kick off its first edition with a double bill of free open-air performances in the outdoor area next to the park. The programme does not follow a continuous storyline, but instead comprises two standalone shows that turn skill, failure and the audience's reactions into the stuff of comedy.
'Piensa en Wilbur' begins at 18:00 and lasts 50 minutes. Wilbur combines acrobatics, humour and risk to create absurd, surprising situations. He is accompanied by his regular stage characters Contractura, Tirón and Desgarro. Behind the character lies a former Spanish champion in artistic gymnastics who, after 16 years in elite sport, turned to humour and clowning, joined Cirque du Soleil in 2003 and later staged his own productions such as 'Mono A Mono B' and 'Fuego salvaje'.
At 19:00, 'Dúo Olé!' follows for a further 50 minutes, featuring Paul Morocco and Marcial Heredia. The duo combines slapstick, virtuoso guitar playing, surprising juggling and strong audience participation. Musical parodies, rumba, acrobatic interludes and visual gags all come together on stage. Paul Morocco developed the show following his time as a street performer in New Orleans. The original version premiered at the London Mime Festival in 1990 and won two awards at the Edinburgh Fringe a year later.
Both performances are suitable for all age groups. Admission is free; entry is on a first-come, first-served basis until all seats are taken.
