The programme features Beethoven's Overture 'Leonora No. 3', Op. 72b, Robert Schumann's Cello Concerto in A minor, Op. 129, and Carl Nielsen's Symphony No. 4 'Lo inextinguible', Op. 29. This selection brings together three very different works which, according to the programme notes, unite political, inner and vital freedom.
Truls Mørk will perform the solo part in Schumann's Cello Concerto. Thomas Dausgaard will conduct. Nielsen's Fourth, which gives the evening its title, is renowned for its rhythmic energy, its inner tension and the striking interplay of the timpani. Beethoven's 'Leonora' Overture alludes to “Fidelio” and thus to themes such as freedom, loyalty and liberation.
