The celebration at the Parroquia Matriz del Apóstol Santiago on Plaza Viera y Clavijo in Realejo Alto combines the Eucharist with a procession in honour of St Francis and St Lucy. It is organised by the Franciscan Brotherhood of El Nazareno.
The occasion marks the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis. The focus is on the fact that the two figures of St Francis and St Lucy are once again being displayed together. They were formerly the titular images of the Franciscan monastery, which no longer exists.
The celebration specifically includes a procession inside the church rather than a procession through the streets. Consequently, the event remains entirely concentrated within the church building of the Parroquia Matriz in Realejo Alto.
