“Noche” was written in 1888 and is regarded as a testament to the naturalism prevalent in Spain at that time. Against a backdrop of hunger, social hypocrisy and societal decay, Alejandro Sawa depicts the consequences of religious fanaticism, poverty and rigid moral standards. The focus is on Don Francisco, who seeks to uphold order and virtue in his home through repression and faith, only to ultimately witness the downfall of the very things he seeks to protect.
The production is by Teatro Español and the Micomicón theatre company. Mariano Llorente is responsible for the adaptation and direction. The cast includes Ástrid Janer as Paquita and Lola, Roser Pujol as Doña Dolores and the narrator, and Alberto Jiménez as Don Francisco and Don Gregorio. Jorge Varandela appears as Paquito in the video sequence.
The production features set design by Arturo Martín Burgos, costumes by Almudena Rodríguez Huertas, lighting by Ion Aníbal, music by Mariano Marín and a video sequence by Emilio Valenzuela. The performance lasts approximately 90 minutes. A discussion with the audience will take place after the Friday performance. Doors at La Salita open between 15:00 and five minutes before the performance begins. Once the theatre doors have closed, no further entry will be permitted. Admission is restricted to those aged five and over; the performance is recommended for audiences aged 18 and over.
