Orfeo and Euridice: Puppet theatre in Los Realejos
Based on the classical myth, this puppet show tells a story of friendship, loss and farewell. At its heart are the young musician Orfeo and the blue macaw Eurídice, who set off together until an accident changes everything. The production is aimed at families, but its child-friendly narrative also appeals to adults. Live music and visually striking scenes characterise the evening's performance.
"Orfeo y Eurídice: Un viaje para decir adiós" is a puppet show that takes liberal liberties with the ancient tale and reimagines it as a new story. It tells the story of Orfeo, a young musician who forms a close bond with Eurídice, a blue macaw who has escaped from the zoo. The bird has just one great wish: to return to Brazil, her homeland.
Together, the two set off on a journey full of discoveries. However, the plot takes a turn when an unexpected accident brings the bird's life to an end. From this, the play develops into a narrative about grief and how pain can be transformed into learning.
The production is staged using the unique visual and poetic language of puppet theatre. This is complemented by live music, vivid imagery and a narrative style that remains accessible to children whilst also allowing room for a deeper interpretation by adults. The performance at the Teatro Cine Realejos is billed as a family show. Admission costs three euros; tickets are available from the theatre box office.
