The recital forms part of the series of piano concerts in the Ciclo de Cámara at the Auditorio de Tenerife. Alexei Volodin has been invited to perform as a guest of the 2027 Málaga International Piano Competition. The programme features four sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, Frédéric Chopin's Ballade No. 3 in A flat major, Op. 47, Robert Schumann's “Carnaval”, Op. 9, and Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Sonata No. 1 in D minor, Op. 28, comprising the movements Allegro moderato, Lento and Allegro molto.
Volodin was born in Leningrad in 1977; he studied at the Gnessin Academy in Moscow and subsequently at the Moscow Conservatoire under Eliso Virsaladze. He gained international recognition following his victory at the Géza Anda Competition in Zurich in 2003. He performs regularly in Europe, Asia and North America and has appeared with orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the St Petersburg Philharmonic.
As a chamber musician, he has collaborated with, amongst others, Igor Levit, Claire Huangci and Sol Gabetta, as well as Janine Jansen, Julian Rachlin and Mischa Maisky. He is also known for several recordings, including a Chopin album which was awarded a 'Choc de Classica' and received five stars from Diapason.
