The programme spans the 19th and 20th centuries. The programme features Ligeti's Étude No. 4 'Fanfares' from Book I, Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C sharp minor, Op. 27 No. 2 'Moonlight', with the movements Adagio sostenuto, Allegretto and Presto agitato, as well as two Nocturnes by Frédéric Chopin, Op. 27 No. 1 in C-sharp minor and Op. 27 No. 2 in D-flat major. This is followed by Ravel's “Alborada del Gracioso” from “Miroirs”.
After the interval, the programme features Debussy's Rêverie L 68 and Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 21 in C major, Op. 53 'Waldstein', with the movements Allegro con brio, Introduzione: Adagio molto and Rondo: Allegretto moderato, Prestissimo. The programme also features Federico Mompou's “Glossa sobre Au clair de lune” and “Fantasía sobre Au clair de la lune”, as well as Liszt's “Rhapsodie espagnole”.
Bruce Liu won first prize at the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2021. He is an exclusive artist with Deutsche Grammophon and received the Opus Klassik Prize in 2024 as Young Artist of the Year for his debut album “Waves”. Born in Paris and raised in Montreal, he studied with Richard Raymond and Dang Thai Son.
The recital will take place in the Sala de Cámara at the Auditorio de Tenerife. Once the doors close at the start of the event, no further admission will be permitted. Admission is restricted to those aged six and over.
